AFRICAN QUINTESSENCE
A gallery of the art of Africans
Maternity Figure, Attie, Ivory Coast
The Attie are one of the Akan speaking peoples who occupy
the region just south of the Baule. Although much less is
known of Attie culture and art, their sculptures are very similar
and related to Baule style. In this case, the sculpture retains
the beauty, grace and dignity of the "Madonna and child"
concept as a universal icon. Circa late 19th / early 20th century.
27 inches tall.
